Mongolia: Mongolia Horseback Expedition

Program

Day 1Arrival in Mongolia

Upon arrival in Mongolia’s capital, we will transfer to our hotel, where we can catch our breath after the journey. This will be our first opportunity to ease into a new culture, meet local people and discover the traditions woven into their everyday lives.

Day 2Discovering Ulaanbaatar

We will begin our Mongolian adventure by exploring the capital, immersing ourselves in the history and culture of the nomadic people.

Day 3Gorkhi-Terelj National Park

After breakfast, we will board our minibus and leave Ulaanbaatar behind. Our horseback adventure will begin in Gorkhi-Terelj National Park, where we will meet the group, our horses and the local nomadic team accompanying us along the trail.

This will be our time to get acquainted with the horses and the surrounding landscape. We will enjoy a short ride, gradually venturing deeper into the mountains and lush green valleys with every kilometre.

We will spend our first night surrounded by nature, beneath Mongolia’s vast open skies. This is where our journey together truly begins.

Day 4Crossing Khavirga Pass

Today, we will venture into more challenging terrain as we cross the steep and rugged Khavirga Pass. Our trail will lead us through ancient larch forests and alpine peatlands.

At the summit, breathtaking panoramic views of the Khentii Mountains will unfold before us. This mountain range forms a transition zone between the harsh taiga wilderness and the steppes of Central Asia.

By evening, we will reach a secluded valley deep within the protected area, where we will set up camp. Far from civilisation and the noise of everyday life, we will rest and prepare for the next stage of our journey.

Day 5Khagiin Khar – The Heart of the Forest Wilderness

An expedition to a hidden lake.

We will set off through dense forests, narrow trails and fast-flowing, crystal-clear mountain streams, venturing deeper into the wild landscapes of Khentii.

With every kilometre, we will draw closer to the mystical glacial lake of Khagiin Khar, hidden deep within this remote wilderness.

Our camp will be set beside the lake, surrounded by forest-covered slopes. The rest of the day will be dedicated to relaxation, exploring the surrounding area and enjoying time immersed in pristine nature.

Day 6Khagiin Khar – The Black Lake

A day of relaxation by Khagiin Khar.

We will begin the morning beside the lake, with time to rest, unwind and enjoy the peaceful surroundings.

After lunch, we will set off towards mountain springs and the Tuul River valley. Today’s ride will be slightly shorter than on previous days, lasting approximately 3–4 hours in the saddle.

Day 7The Tuul River Valley – Along the River and Across Open Meadows

Forest trails will gradually give way to vast valleys and golden meadows, perfect for long stretches of trotting.

We will travel through the upper reaches of the Tuul River, and by evening, we will set up camp at a picturesque bend in the river, surrounded by the raw beauty of Mongolia’s remote wilderness.

This day will allow us to experience Mongolia in all its vastness: boundless, wild, beautiful and far removed from civilisation.

Day 8The Vastness and Depth of the Steppe

As we cover more ground, the landscape will open up into endless expanses. The wind in our hair and the exhilaration of galloping across the open steppe will allow us to discover a profound sense of freedom and feel the strength of both ourselves and our horses.

After a day full of adventure, we will spend the night in a traditional Mongolian ger (yurt), hosted by a local horseman’s family.

We will share an exquisite dinner and gather around the campfire, exchanging stories and memories from our journey.

Day 9Returning from the Heart of Khentii

After the final stretch of our horseback journey, we will return to our base, where we will say goodbye to our horses and local guides.

Private transport will then take us back to Ulaanbaatar.

We will bring our expedition to a close, having spent several days exchanging the rush of everyday life for the rhythm of nature. We will have discovered Mongolia from horseback and reached places where vast, open spaces still take centre stage.

Day 10Departure

Transfer to the airport, farewell to the group and departure.
